organised an evening with the Austrian Ensemble \"Salzburger Saitenklang\" at India
Habitat Centre, New Delhi, where the soothing notes emerged from different
instruments and drifted across the auditorium and mesmerised the audience. The
Ensemble is famous for its synthesis of period and modern string instruments with
the concert repertoire extending from folk music to the multi-faceted music of
Mozart to the modern styles of instrumental music.

instruments and drifted across the auditorium and mesmerised the audience. The
Ensemble is famous for its synthesis of period and modern string instruments with
the concert repertoire extending from folk music to the multi-faceted music of
Mozart to the modern styles of instrumental music.
A rare Jugalbandi was also seen during the concert with the band & Indian Classical
Musicians Suhail Yusuf Khan (Sarangi) & Mohit Lal (Tabla). On this occasion Monika &
Peter Haschelbaeur (Austrian Cultural Forum), Alexandra Hardiman, Anshuman Pandey
(Director, Spandan Communications), Munish Bahal (Dy. Director, Austrian Cultural
Forum) and many others were also present there.
Austria often named as The Land of Music has generated a broad contribution to
various forms of art, most notably among them music. Austria has been the birthplace
of many famous composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Franz
Schubert, Anton Bruckner, Johann Strauss Sr., Johann Strauss Jr. and Gustav Mahler
as well as members of the Second Viennese School such as Arnold Schoenberg, Anton
Webern and Alban Berg and conductors like Felix Weingartner, Clemens Krauss, and
Herbert von Karajan, are just a few who have enriched Austrian cultural life. The
Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are celebrated
organizations. Music in all its format and facets still continues to enjoy a special
place in present day Austria.
The programme kicked-off with a number of small pieces from famous operas and
orchestras by the Austrian Band and they also played a folk dance tune. After this
they performed with the Indian musicians Suhail Yusuf Khan on Sarangi and Mohit Lal
on Tabla.
This was for the first time the Band was performing in India. They said, \"Our motive
was to combine Indian classical and Western music. We have performed in many
countries but Indians are one of the warmest people we have come across. The weather
here is slightly hot but we are enjoying ourselves,\" said Wilfried Scharf. Guitarist
Roswitha Steindl said, \"We don\'t have a particular style, we play every kind of
music like; romantic, classical, folk or contemporary. We play from heart and we
want our music to reach the heart of our listeners.
Suhail Yusuf Khan said that we have performed with the western artistes earlier but
we enjoyed this performance very much as it was one of the most exciting
performances.
